Subject:  You’re Not a Lion!

Good Morning Ethan and Emily:

I read this interesting observation recently in my study of Psalms:  “Even strong, young lions sometimes go hungry, but those who trust in the Lord will never lack any good thing.” (Ps. 34:10)  Wow…what a statement!

Actually the 34th Psalm is one of the most comforting chapters in the Bible and it is worthy of our special study.  In these few words God promises many things…but the realization and incorporation of these blessings into our daily experience requires our active involvement and participation.

This passage in the Psalms begins with this bold statement:  “I prayed to the Lord, and He answered me, freeing me from all my fears” (v.4).  But this is only the beginning.  Note that the passage does not say that we will not experience fears and difficulties as we live our lives…but does tell us how to be “free” from them.

Our Lord has also promised joy (vv.5,8) and a life that is “long and good,” (v.12)…in addition to supplying all our needs (v.9).  Keep in mind, however, that God is referring to what we “need” not what we “want”…and there IS a difference.

Additionally, He has promised to hear us when we call out to Him for help (vv.15,17) and that He will guard us and rescue us when times are tough (vv.7,17-20).  Finally, He promises to be “close” to us (v.18) and offers “redemption” and “pardon” for sin (v.22).

But to make these blessings a reality in our lives and a part of our daily experience, we must “pray” (v.4), “look to the Lord for help” (v.5), “cry out to Him” (v.6,15,17), “fear” Him (v.7), “taste” (obey) Him (v.8), and “trust,” “revere,” and “honor” Him (v.8,10).  We are to “watch” our tongues and tell the truth always (v.13).  Furthermore, we are to “turn from evil and do good” (v.14a,16), “work hard at living in peace with others (v.14b), “do right” (v.15), have a tender and broken heart (v.18), and above all, “trust” and “serve” Him (v.22).

So…next time you are tempted to be discouraged or are afraid, remember “hungry lions.”  Even animals as ferocious as these can go hungry…but as a child of God, you will not wander through the “forest” of life aimlessly, but will have every need met…as you serve God with your whole heart, mind, and soul.

You’re not a lion!  Live in the confidence of knowing that the “eyes of the Lord” are watching over you!

Have a great day…

Dad
