Subject:  God’s Marine Corps

Dear Ethan & Emily:

The Marines are looking for a “Few Good Men.”  In a similar manner, God is also looking for men and women…albeit even a few…who “live” their faith and are willing to stand up for righteousness, purity, and Truth.

God’s destruction of Sodom is a well-known story.  Abraham, knowing that his nephew Lot, resided in the city, asked God to spare the city even though it had a reputation as a sinful and evil city if he could find 50 righteous people living there.  God always merciful and long suffering, agreed.  Upon more thought, Abraham lowered his count and asked for mercy if he could find 40.  To this, God also agreed.  This dialogue went back and forth until Abraham requested that God spare the city if he could find even 10 righteous people.  God again agreed.  Just a “few good men and women” can make a difference in society…but not even this small number could be found, and God destroyed both the sister cities of Sodom and Gomorrah.  Showing mercy, God allowed Lot to escape with his family before judgment came.

Moving thru history, the prophet Ezekiel speaking for the Lord and lamenting the sinful state to which Jerusalem had fallen, stated: “I (God) looked for someone who might rebuild the wall of righteousness that guards the land.  I search for someone to stand in the gap in the wall so I wouldn’t have to destroy the land, but I found no one.”  (Ezekiel 22:30)

Even so God is looking for a “few good men and women of faith” today who will stand for Him…even one…who will stand in the “gap” and stand true to their faith…whether it be in their families, at work, at school or wherever God has placed them.

Let us resolve to be one of God’s “Marines”…as one of His “few good men (and women).”

Have a wonderful day as you serve Him  “Forward march…!”

All my love,
Dad
